The Education Department at HawkWatch International (HWI) works to impassion audiences about raptors and the threats they face, in order to foster behaviors that help conserve our shared environment. HWI is recognized throughout the western U.S. for improving public awareness and understanding of raptors and their conservation needs through effective educational programs. School Programs
HawkWatch has a unique way of getting students (and teachers) excited about science. We provide several resources that help classroom teachers reach students in innovative ways, including:
- Teacher Professional Development Workshops
- Lesson Plans
- Classroom Programs, featuring live birds
Our program content relies heavily on the methods and results of our migration monitoring research, and correlates to standards of the appropriate state science, math, and reading curricula. Learn how to schedule an event.
HawkWatch International offers raptor identification courses and lectures in the Salt Lake Community. We can also work with you to tailor a program specific to the needs of your group. Summer camps, scout troops, libraries, nursing homes, youth shelters, and museums are a few examples of groups that have used HawkWatch Education programs. You can too. There are interpreters at most of our migratory project sites, ready to help you understand more about raptors, their migrations, and the science HWI does. Visit a HWI field site. |
