Programs for Young People
Wondering how to get your students, grades 3 and up, excited about math and science? HawkWatch can help. We have several classroom programs available, based on your core curriculum standards. We also have lesson plans available.
Live bird programs include a presentation and the on-the-glove display of a live raptor. Students are allowed time for Q&A.
Math and Science classroom programs for grades 3-12
- Observing and Banding Birds of Prey (grades 3-12) Learn about what HWI scientists do, how data is interpreted, and how scientists work with birds of prey. Participants will interpret graphs, use measurement tools, and use the scientific process to try to determine the core causes of fluctuations in raptor populations.
- Tracking Birds of Prey(MESA Clubs, Girl Scout Cadettes, Boy Scout groups) Follow the journeys of hawks and eagles through the use of satellite telemetry! Participants use math and science skills to understand the real-life activities of raptors on migration.
“Edu-tainment” Programs
- Raptor Rapture (General audiences, afterschool groups, libraries, museums, younger audiences) The story of raptors is taught through activities and song. This lively program is appropriate for mixed age-group audiences.
