Educator

Reports to: Education and Outreach Director
Status: Full-time (exempt)
Location: Salt Lake City, UT (this position can not be filled remotely)

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
HWI Educators:

  • Work with the education department in the design and implementation of quality education programs for the general public and K-12 curricula
  • Deliver and facilitate presentations to K-12 school students and the general public with an emphasis on grades 9-12
  • Schedule programs and ensure program data is entered accurately and promptly
  • Assist in the development and delivery of teacher professional development workshops
  • Travel across Utah and the Western United States to deliver presentations
  • Assist in the training of docent volunteers in bird handling and presentation skills
  • Ensure docent volunteer data is entered accurately and promptly
  • Assist in the care and enrichment of education raptors
  • Network with community and regional partners
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
Qualified candidates must have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in science, education, or communications field OR have 3+ years experience working in an environmental education setting OR equivalent experience
  • 3+ years experience in public speaking, presenting, or working with children
  • Ability to relate to all ages of the community; Pre-K to adult
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with team members
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Efficient time management skills to consistently meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Computer proficiency, particularly with Microsoft Suite, databases, and Google applications
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
  • A commitment to the protection of wildlife and our shared environment

Ideal candidates will:

  • Speak fluent Spanish
  • Have experience working with diverse communities and wide-ranging demographics
  • Have experience working with captive wildlife, especially birds
  • Have experience teaching at any level
  • Posses a basic understanding of data collection and analysis and scientific research
  • Be familiar STEM education and initiatives in Utah and Utah SEEd standards
