Community scientists will be assigned a box (or several!) to monitor throughout the nesting season. SUMMARY:How do habitat features and climate change impact owls and other cavity-nesters?
DESCRIPTION:Over the last six years\, HawkWatch International has banded over 500 owls and mapped over 3\,000 tree cavities as part of the Following Forest Owl program\, an effort to close “knowledge gaps” that exist for a number of small\, cavity-nesting owl species. The cavities used by these owls are also important to other wildlife\, including other birds\, bats\, ringtails\, squirrels\, and insects; a single tree cavity can play home to generations of other wildlife over the years. DESCRIPTION:Whoo’s new at HawkWatch International? Meet our newest Raptor Ambassador\, a Barn Owl whoo will be named during an Owl-o-ween celebration on Monday\, October 30th\, from 6-8pm. This FREE\, family-friendly event will feature trick-or-treating for the kids\, opportunities for up-close encounters with live owls\, and more. Costumes are highly recommended! \nAnd for those whoo want to get a little spookier\, you can purchase an owl pellet to dissect with help from our educators. Owl pellets are extremely limited\, so reserve yours ASAP if you’d like to purchase this add-on!  \nREGISTER NOW \nThis event is made possible by Salt Lake County ZAP and the generosity of supporters like you. \n \n \n\nOwl Pellet Dissection Details \n\nEach owl pellet can be dissected by up to four participants\, but you’re welcome to reserve multiple if you’d prefer not to share.\nOwl pellets will be dissected in two shifts\, one at 6:30pm and one at 7:30pm\, so please be sure to select the time that works best for you when ordering.\nSPACES FOR the 6:30PM SHIFT ARE SOLD OUT. If we have any no-shows\, walk-ins will be offered a pellet.\n\nIf you reserve an owl pellet\, please plan to arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of your dissection time. If any owl pellets remain unclaimed at the start of the dissection\, they will be offered to walk-ins\, and you will forfeit your pellet.
