SUMMARY:How do habitat features and climate change impact owls and other cavity-nesters?
DESCRIPTION:Over the last six years\, HawkWatch International has banded over 500 owls and mapped over 3\,000 tree cavities as part of the Following Forest Owl program\, an effort to close “knowledge gaps” that exist for a number of small\, cavity-nesting owl species. The cavities used by these owls are also important to other wildlife\, including other birds\, bats\, ringtails\, squirrels\, and insects; a single tree cavity can play home to generations of other wildlife over the years. But the question remains: how long do these features last\, and how might they be impacted by a changing climate? \nJoin Graduate Research Associate Kassandra Townsend during this virtual event to learn more about the program and what we’ve learned about how habitat and climate change may be impacting owls and other wildlife. \nREGISTER NOW for this virtual event. \nHWI’s Following Forest Owls program is sponsored by the Earthwatch Institute and the community scientist volunteers who participate in the program. This event is made possible by Salt Lake County ZAP. Both are supported by the generosity of people like you.

SUMMARY:Roads & Raptors (and other wildlife\, too!)
DESCRIPTION:With 40 million miles on planet Earth\, roads have a significant impact on people and animals. While roads are vital to our society\, they can also wreak havoc. Plus\, you’ll have the opportunity to meet an animal that has been directly impacted by vehicle collisions—Chrys\, the Golden Eagle. \nThe panel will be moderated by Jordan Herman\, PhD\, Conservation Biologist for HawkWatch International. Panelists include: \n\nSteve Slater\, PhD\, Director of Conservation Science\, HawkWatch International\nKatie Davis\, J.D.\, Executive Director\, Wildlands Network\nAustin Green\, PhD\, Program Manager\, Wasatch Wildlife Watch\nBen Goldfarb\, Environmental Journalist and Author of Crossings\n\nRegister Now \n\nThis event is free to attend\, but those who pre-order the book through HawkWatch International will receive priority to meet the author and have their book signed. Book proceeds will be shared by HawkWatch International and Wildlands Network. \nCan’t join us for the event?
