Hood by joining HawkWatch International for a special 40th anniversary field trip to the Bonney Butte HawkWatch\, just outside Portland\, Oregon. In addition to expert hawkwatching instruction from our team\, you’ll enjoy a boxed lunch from a local restaurant and round-trip transportation from a meetup point in Government Camp. \nWhat to Expect\n \nAfter meeting your fellow hawkwatchers at our meetup point\, you’ll find a seat in one of our fleet of SUVs and make the ~60-minute drive to the Bonney Butte HawkWatch. From there\, it’s a short hike up to the HawkWatch. \nWe’ll arrive just as the temperatures begin to rise and the day’s flight begins to pick up. You’ll have plenty of time to hawkwatch with our biologists and this year’s crew\, learning more about how raptors use mountain ridges and updrafts to make their way south each fall. Join us on this guided journey where we’ll make it as easy as possible to reach one of the highest volume HawkWatch sites in the West\, the Goshute Mountains HawkWatch. Plus\, you’ll have the exclusive opportunity to camp out overnight at the top of the mountain.  \nWhat to Expect\n \nAfter meeting your fellow participants at our headquarters in Salt Lake City\, you’ll join a caravan of SUVs to make the ~2-hour drive to the Goshute Mountains HawkWatch\, located just outside West Wendover\, Nevada. From there\, it’s a ~2.5 mile hike up ~1\,800 vertical feet to the HawkWatch. \nWe’ll arrive to the count site around mid-day\, as the migrating raptors take advantage of the warmth of the thermals. After breakfast on Sunday morning\, we’ll pack sack lunches for the trip back and enjoy a little more hawkwatching before we have to head down the mountain and back to Salt Lake City.
