Aurora

Swainson's Hawk

Buteo swainsoni

Aurora was found on the road, unable to fly, due to an injury to a tendon on her left wing. After arriving at the Great Basin Wildlife Rescue, they determined the damage would leave Aurora unable to fly ever again. Swainson’s Hawks are known for their epic migrations of up to 12,000 miles, and with a trip that intense, even Swainson’s Hawks with less extensive injuries are more likely to be deemed unreleasable. Aurora was named after the Northern lights, or the aurora borealis, which can be spotted a the northern end of their range.
