35 Years: What's in a Band? How We Band Raptors and Why

35 Years: What's in a Band? How We Band Raptors and Why

Did you know that birds have been banded for scientific purposes since the 1800s? Banding birds is a proven method for tracking movement, survivability, behavior, and reproductive success. For HawkWatch International, banding is an important supplement to support our migration count data. In this hour-long presentation, you will get to see what the banding process looks like from start to finish at our migration sites. We will show you how we band a bird, what data we collect, and how we use that data to conserve raptors and our shared environment.
