Salt Lake City Parks & Birds

Salt Lake City Parks & Birds

Join HWI's Dave Oleyar and Artemis, the Western Screech-owl, at the Salt Lake City Lee Charles Miller Bird Refuge and Nature Park. Get an up close look at a Screech-owl and learn a little about owl biology before taking a walk through the park to listen for, and  hopefully spot owls.

Meet at the Northeast end of the park and wear appropriate clothing and shoes. It's going to be a hoot!

HawkWatch International entered into a partnership in 2015 with Salt Lake City's Parks and Public Lands Program to study urban raptors and other birds, including American Kestrels and Western Screech-owls. We’ll be installing nest boxes in various Salt Lake City parks as part of this conservation study to research nesting success rates in different landscapes, including urban open space. Learn more about our American Kestrel Study on the project page.
