Field Trip

Expand your hawkwatching to the winter months and see species you may not have seen before! Join Jerry Liguori and Neil Paprocki for an adventure to see the array of raptors that make their homes in Utah for the winter. Enjoy the company of other hawk watchers and learn the secret tips and tricks for identifying raptors during this often underappreciated time of year.

Participants will meet at 9:00 AM at The Nature Conservancy's Great Salt Lake Shorelands Preserve, located at 41 South 3200 West, Layton, UT 84041.

This is a free field trip and will be led at Farmington Bay. Use the registration buttons below to recieve directions to the meeting area.

Join HWI for an outing to the Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge; the raptor watching and general birding should be stellar! Don't forget to bring your binoculars, lunch, water hat and sunscreen.

We will meet at 10 am at Farmington Bay in the Great Salt Lake Nature Center parking lot. Park anywhere in the lot and meet next to the two buildings (click here for a map). Come join us for as long as you would like. Depending on where the birds are, we will travel a bit around Farmington Bay. Make sure to layer up and dress for the winter weather, and bring water and snacks. We will have some extra binoculars and spotting scopes, but please bring your own optics if you have them.
