Join us for an Owl Prowl field trip at Alta Ski Resort on July 16. We will meet in the Albion Grill at 8 pm for a short presentation on resident owls, and you'll get to meet Kotori our Great Horned Owl. We will then shuttle up to the Catherine's Pass Trailhead for a dusk/nighttime stroll to listen for owls. This is a family friendly event, but please respect the need for quiet on our owl prowl walk and no pets.

Hawks, eagles, and falcons can be challenging to identify, particularly in flight. Dave Irons and Shawneen Finnegan will cover the basics of raptor identification in the evening class and then you’ll have an opportunity to practice your new skills with Jerry Liguori on a field trip to Bonney Butte, a hawk migration study site near Mt. Hood that offers an opportunity to see migrating raptors on their way to their wintering grounds. Jerry Liguori is the author of three books and numerous articles on raptors and his studies have taken him across most of North America, researching raptor biology, life history, identification, migration, and general behavior. Dave Ironsis one of Oregon’s top birders and Shawneen Finnegan once lived in one of the most famous hawk-watching locations in North America (Cape May, New Jersey), where she observed thousands of hawks each fall.
