Join us for an adventure to see the array of raptors that make their homes in Utah for the winter. Enjoy the company of other hawk watchers and learn some tips from our science staff on identifying raptors during this often underappreciated time of year.
We will select the location closer to the field trip date, and will follow the birds. The location will be within a 30-40 mile drive time from Salt Lake City. We will communicate location and car pooling details, so make sure to give us a good email when you register.
Make sure to:
Cost is free for HWI members and $10 for non-members.
Registration will be capped at 25 people to keep the group small and intimate. Use the links below to register today!
If we have bad weather on the planned date, we will move the field trip to the following day, Sunday, January 22.

Have you ever wanted to sharpen your raptor identification skills? Join Steve for a classroom presentation as he provides a detailed discussion of the identification and natural history of western diurnal raptors species. Steve’s illustrated evening presentation will include a description of the most common western species, including plumage and color forms, age and sex variations, subspecies, and will include helpful behavioral clues to sharpen your in-flight identification skills. Steve’s presentation will be especially valuable for “intermediate” and “advanced” raptor-watching enthusiasts, although beginners will also find this workshop quite helpful.
Pizza and soda provided during workshop.

Field Trip Update:
Due to the weather this weekend, we are offering two field trip options, Friday from 9am-4pm will be a spring migration hawkwatching field trip up in the mountains, and Saturday from 9am-4pm will be a trip out to the west desert for some hawk and bird watching. Please notate which you would prefer in the comment box in the registration.
