Docent Onboarding

Do you like talking to people? Do you love animals? Do you enjoy talking to people about the animals that you love?

If you answered, "yes," to these questions, are at least 18 years old, and live in the Salt Lake area, then the HawkWatch International (HWI) Education Docent volunteer program might be a great fit for you!

HWI Education Docents learn how to handle live birds of prey and take them to outreach programs at schools, community partners, and private events across northern Utah. Education Docents are vital to helping us achieve our mission to conserve our shared environment through education, long-term monitoring, and scientific research on raptors as indicators of ecosystem health.

If you would like to learn more about volunteering as an Education Docent please join us for this in-person information meeting. We'll cover the following information:

  • What docents do
  • The commitment required
  • How the training process works
  • Benefits of being an Education Docent
  • Next steps for those who wish to apply
