Migration Day at Commissary Ridge

Take what you learned from the ID presentation and join HawkWatch International at the Commissary Ridge HawkWatch site on Saturday, October 6 from noon - 5pm for a day of identifying migrating raptors overhead with the experts. Come spend the full day or part of the day with us!  Check out our raptor ID fact sheets to prepare for your day of hawk watching. This has been a HawkWatch site since 2002, providing an amazing opportunity to survey unusually high concentrations of migrating raptors. With a steady wind, eagles, hawks, and falcons migrating south tend to fly along the ridge in sight of the observation point.  At last year’s Migration Day, HawkWatch International biologists and the public counted 113 raptors!

Please note: there are no restrooms or running water at the migration site, so please plan ahead. The closest restroom is a vault toilet at Lake Viva Naughton. If possible, carpooling is advised. Check the Commissary Ridge HawkWatch page for directions; directional signs will be placed along 183 and 233 to help guide you.
