Help us shine a light on raptor conservation.

Looking into the eyes of a raptor can light up a child’s life. Our Raptor Ambassadors are fundamental team members in our pursuit to conserve these charismatic and essential species. These Ambassadors are educators in their own right, impacting over 40,000 people a year worldwide. That is why we are excited to announce the addition of our newest Ambassador: Aurora, the Swainson’s Hawk!

Aurora was found on the road, unable to fly, due to an injury to a tendon on her left wing. After arriving at the Great Basin Wildlife Rescue, they determined the damage would leave Aurora unable to fly ever again. Swainson’s Hawks are known for their epic migrations of up to 12,000 miles, and with a trip that intense, even Swainson’s Hawks with less extensive injuries are more likely to be deemed unreleasable. Aurora is entering a new journey in her life, where she will spend the rest of her days shining a light on conservation as a Raptor Ambassador.

Caring for these birds who can no longer survive in the wild is a privilege. Our community of staff, docents, and bird care are committed to giving birds like Aurora the best care possible. It costs about $3,000 a year to feed and care for a single Raptor Ambassador. This number, however, does not include the costs associated with acquiring a new bird, permitting, and staff time spent training our birds to be the best Raptor Ambassadors possible.

Will you help us raise $5,000 to care for Aurora so that we can illuminate a child’s inner scientist?
