About the Program

This program, carried out by the Proyecto Aguila Poma Noroeste de Argentina team, coordinated by Juan Manuel Grande, aims to better understand Black-and-chestnut Eagle diet, population ecology, and ranging behavior to inform long-term conservation strategies for the species across multiple provinces in Argentina. The program also aims to understand the extent and drivers of human–eagle conflict in Argentina and to reduce persecution through direct engagement and involvement of local communities and stakeholders.

Future of the Program

This project aims to collect long-term data on the Black-and-chestnut Eagle to build one of the most detailed datasets yet collected for this species. Owing to the low density and difficult-to-access areas where this eagle inhabits, this project aims to train and build a research and monitoring network so that locals can be directly involved in monitoring and conservation.
