Wings Across the West …of Africa!
June 13 @ 6:30 pm - 10:30 pm MDT

In the bustling fetish markets of Benin, the Critically Endangered Hooded Vulture is sold for belief-based practices, where animal parts or talismans are thought to cure illnesses or bring good fortune. This is especially concerning considering the species is disappearing across most of Africa.
It’s something that researcher Abiola Chaffra became aware of as a young child when he visited the markets with his mother. Thanks to support from HawkWatch International’s Global Raptor Research & Conservation Grant in 2023, Abiola was able to take action and document this trade all these years later.
Join us for Wings Across the West…of Africa! and hear Abiola’s firsthand account of his work documenting the vulture trade in West Africa. Enjoy the vibrant flavors of this region, experience the rhythm of traditional music, and meet HawkWatch International’s Raptor Ambassadors. Plus, take part in an exclusive auction featuring stunning original oil paintings and more!
