Tim Buchanan, MS

He/Him

Tim Buchanan retired in northern Utah after a career in Corporate Social Responsibility, which took him around the world managing and consulting on sustainability, community investment, and stakeholder engagement programs. This work included developing and managing impactful conservation, education, and related partnerships with HawkWatch International, the Nature Conservancy, Friends of Nevada Wilderness, Birdlife International, the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization, and others. Tim holds a Master’s Degree in Water Resources Management, an undergraduate degree in Engineering, and was a Registered Professional Engineer in Nevada. He has worked or consulted on the environmental and social aspects of projects located in North America, Africa, Australia, Europe, Southeast Asia/Pacific, and South America. Tim has served on the Board of Directors of The Friends of Nevada Wilderness, the Nevada Chapter of The Nature Conservancy, the Outside Las Vegas Foundation, and as the Board Chair of the Western Shoshone Scholarship Foundation.

Tim has spent many years in the Intermountain West during his lifetime, including over seven years previously in northern Utah. His connection to the natural world and its wildlife began in the late 1960s, and since then, he has spent as much time as possible outdoors, enjoying hiking, backpacking, camping, and cycling, and exploring the Utah and Nevada backcountry for the last 45 years. Raptors have always been a subject of awe for Tim, and his first visit to a HawkWatch International monitoring site was the Goshute Mountains HawkWatch in 1994, a site he has visited on many occasions since. He has also visited the Manzano Mountains and Tubac HawkWatches.

Tim is an avid traveler and enjoys live music, theater, reading, and a glass of wine while watching the sunset over the Great Salt Lake. He brings strategic planning, project planning, sustainability, and development expertise to the Board.
