American Kestrel
Falco sparverius
Liggy
Liggy, a female American Kestrel, was brought to a wildlife rehabilitator in 2023. It quickly became clear that she was imprinted on people, most likely due to someone without training or permits attempting to raise her themselves. The rehabber passed her off to a falconer, who attempted to teach her how to hunt. Liggy showed no interest in hunting, so she transitioned to an educational Raptor Ambassador. The falconer relocated Liggy to HawkWatch International (HWI) in 2025.
Her name is in honor of Jerry Ligouri, our late friend, raptor conservationist, photographer, and former educator at HWI.
