Communications Manager

Sammy Riccio

She/Her

Sammy has always had a deep interest in flora and fauna. From childhood, she was trying to pronounce the lengthy Latin names of the flowers her father planted in the yard. This love for the environment only grew with time and led her to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, PA. There, her research focused on plant-pollinator interactions and science education. Post graduation, she took a naturalist role at a nature center in her home state of Connecticut, where she was first introduced to working with raptors. This role cemented Sammy’s passion for connecting with her community and aiding in the conservation of raptor species.

Sammy joined HawkWatch International in April of 2021 as the Donor Engagement Coordinator and transitioned to Communications Manager in 2023. At HWI, Sammy leads communications, merchandising, and grant writing. She also assists in fundraising campaigns and donor relations. Through this role, Sammy is thrilled to continue her lifelong study of the natural world while contributing to the organization’s growth.

Outside work, you can find Sammy practicing hobbyist entomology, cooking new vegetarian dishes, trying to lift heavy weights in the gym, or watching campy horror movies.
