Artemis

Western Screech-Owl
Megascops kennicottii

Artemis is a female Western Screech-Owl who was hit by a car while on the hunt for prey, the most common injury among raptors. The collision damaged her right eye and severly impacted her capacity to capture prey and perch, leaving her unable to be released back into the wild. Named for the Greek goddess of the hunt, this wee predator is now retired from the field and will spend her days bringing joy and conservation knowledge to all whom she meets. As of 2014, we suspect her age is about four years.
