Administration and Development
Madison Hanna joined HawkWatch International (HWI) in July 2026 as the Development Manager on the Development and Communications team. In this role, she supports donor relations, annual giving campaigns, and the planning and execution of special events and field trips that help connect supporters to HWI’s mission.
In 2024, Madison graduated from the University of Utah with degrees in Strategic Communications and Health, Society, & Policy. Before joining HWI, Madison worked as a Marketing & Communications Specialist at the University of Utah’s College of Social Work, where she focused on storytelling that highlighted the impact of research, education, and donor support. She wrote feature articles, supported annual giving efforts, and helped execute events. Previously, she worked in the external relations department at the John A. Moran Eye Center as a writer and volunteer coordinator, supporting major fundraising efforts including Night for Sight.
A lifelong backyard birder, Madison is passionate about social and environmental justice in the context of climate change and is committed to conserving wild places. She’s an active member of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and has participated in community projects ranging from invasive species monitoring in Mission Bay, San Diego, to building beaver dam analogs with Sageland Collaborative in Utah.
Originally from Houston and now a longtime Utahn, Madison enjoys hot yoga, reading, and cooking at home with her fiancé Ben, their cat Cheddar, and their rottweiler Chop—when they’re not out hiking or fly-fishing across the West.
